Big Second Half Pushes UMHB Past 'Roo Women

SHERMAN, Texas – Austin College took a 1-0 halftime lead but three second half goals for Mary Hardin-Baylor pushed the Crusaders past the 'Roo women's soccer team 3-1 in the season opener for both teams. The 'Roos open the year 0-1 and will be looking to even up their record on Friday when they hit the road to face UT-Tyler.

UMHB controlled possession for the first part of the opening half, but Austin College struck first on a 25 yard shot from Erica Williams that dipped just under the crossbar in the 31st minute of action. Erin Eckart assisted on the tally, which sent the 'Roos into the break leading 1-0.

The Crusaders leveled things in the 63rd minute of action when Sarah Rempe took a pass through the box and punched it home from six yards out, and 15 minutes later UMHB went on top on a goal by Kat Parker. The Crusaders would add one more goal in the 88th minute of action for insurance, handing Austin College the 3-1 defeat.

Laura McGee made 10 saves in the net for Austin College, while Courtney Craig made five stops for UMHB. The Crusaders owned a 31-12 edge in the shots department in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
