'Roo Women Net Two in the Second Half to Top Centenary 2-0

The Austin College women's soccer team got a pair of second half goals from Cami Mavelian and Tyler Marquez and the 'Roos were able to dominate possession in a 2-0 victory over Centenary College on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 8-6 overall and 4-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the win.

Austin College held an 8-3 shot advantage in the opening half as neither team was able to find the net, but Centenary found itself with the best chance early on as Marissa Hughes curled a shot toward the top right corner, but Franchesca Lozoya was able to stretch out and punch the ball away just before it found the back of the net.

The 'Roos were finally able to get on the board in the second half when Marquez was taken down in the box, and Mavelian stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty kick to make it 1-0 just three minutes into the half. Austin College would add to its lead in the 63rd minute of action when Marquez took a pass from Erin Eckart and ripped it into the top right corner from 18 yards away, and that would be all the cushion the 'Roo defense would need.

Lozoya made three saves and combined with Laura McGee to earn the shutout as Austin College held a 20-5 edge in shots. Erica Coker made eight saves for the Ladies.

Austin College will be looking for its third straight win when the 'Roos host the University of Dallas on Tuesday afternoon.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
