Women's Soccer Stays Unbeaten with 3-1 Win

The Austin College women's soccer team trailed 1-0 at the half but used two penalty kick goals to take the lead and got a late tally to make it a 3-1 final over visiting Millsaps College on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the 'Roos remain unbeaten with a record of 4-0 to start the season.

Austin College owned the early shot advantage but Millsaps was the first team to break through in the 19th minute, when Lindy Robichaux drilled a free kick into the back of the net from the top of the box. Both teams had chances before the break but neither was able to score, and the Majors lead 1-0 at halftime.

It didn't take long for Austin College to square things in the second half, with Cami Mavelian knocking home a penalty kick after Tyler Marquez was taken down in the box in the 50th minute of action. The 'Roos jumped on top 2-1 in the 78th minute when Marquez scored on a penalty kick of her own, lifting the ball into the upper right corner for what would prove to be the game winner.

Millsaps had several promising second half chances, including a point blank from Taylor Winslow that 'Roo keeper Franchesca Lozoya was able to get in front of to keep the Majors off the board. With 1:03 remaining Ashley Rice collected a rebound off of a shot from Erin Eckart and punched it home to make it a 3-1 final.

Lozoya finished with five saves in net for Austin College and Elise Davis made six stops for Millsaps, as the 'Roos held an 18-11 shot advantage in the match. Austin College will be back in action on Sunday when they host the University of Texas-Dallas at noon.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
