Women's Soccer Improves to 2-0 with Win Over ETBU

Mandi Sherwood scored her second goal in as many days to open the season and Myranda Baumgartner added a late tally as the Austin College women's soccer team topped East Texas Baptist 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams got several strong chances in the first half, with ETBU owning a 9-to-6 shot advantage but neither team was able to find the back of the net. It wasn't until 10 minutes into the second half that Sherwood opened the scoring, tallying her second straight game-winning goal.

The Tigers had what looked to be a sure goal late in the game, but Ashley Webb stepped in front of the header to make the play defensively. Baumgartner added her insurance goal in the 88th minute to put Austin College on top 2-0, and that's how things would end.

ETBU owned a 15-10 shot advantage, but Franchesca Lozoya earned her second straight clean sheet to open the year, making five saves in the win.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
