The Austin College women's soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 lead over visiting Centenary College, but the Ladies squared things up late and got a goal in overtime to hand the 'Roos a 2-1 loss on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 6-11-1 overall and 5-6-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Austin College got on the board in the 23rd minute of action when Dominique Martinez scored from outside the 18 on an assist from Sydney Redding, and the 'Roos dominated possession for the rest of the half en route to taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Austin College used an 8-3 advantage in shots to take the first half lead.
The 'Roos continued their ball dominance in the second half, out-shooting the Ladies 11-3 after halftime, but Centenary managed to get behind the Austin College defenders and Madison Alexander scored in the 78th minute to send the game to overtime. In the first overtime the 'Roos once again had an edge in shots but Centenary tallied in the 97th minute to end the game.
Emily Brockette made four saves for Austin College and Erica Coker had 11 stops for Centenary as the 'Roos held a 23-8 shot advantage in the game. The 'Roos are back in action tomorrow when they host UC-Santa Cruz for Senior Day at 12:00 p.m.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
