Women's Soccer's Unbeaten Streak Snapped by Southwestern

The Austin College women's soccer team fell in a 2-0 hole in the first half and was unable to come back despite a strong second half performance, falling 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 5-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Southwestern's Sarah Bevins opened up the scoring in the 22nd minute to put the Pirates up 1-0, getting assists from Lindsay Jakszta and Kylie O'Connor. Jakszta got a goal of her own 16 minutes later on a feed from Hayley Miesse to send the 'Roos into halftime trailing 2-0. Southwestern owned a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half.

The 'Roos came out more aggressive in their attack in the second half, and it paid off at the 81 minute mark when Lauren Scott took a feed from Ashley Rice and got Austin College at the board. Moments later Rice had a chance to square things up, but her shot from the top of the box went just right of the net, and the 'Roos would be unable to get another look in the game's final minutes.

Southwestern owned a 14-10 shot advantage in the game, as Emily Brockette made six saves for Austin College. This loss snaps a four game unbeaten streak for the 'Roos, who return to the pitch on Sunday when they host Trinity University at 12:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
