Women's Soccer Explodes for 11 Goals in Win over LeTourneau

The Austin College women's soccer team got big days from Cami Mavelian and Mandi Sherwood on its way to an 11-0 victory over visiting LeTourneau University to give head coach Kristina Corona her first victory at Austin College on Tuesday evening. The 'Roos are now 1-1 on the year.

Austin College got on the board early with a goal by Mavelian on an assist from Tyler Marquez in the 10th minute of action, and two minutes later Marquez chalked up another assist when she found Sherwood to make it 2-0. Abby Saizow tallied in the 25th minute on a feed from Mavelian, and Saizow assisted on the second goal of the game for Sherwood five minutes later to send the 'Roos into the half leading 4-0.

In the second half, Mavelian tallied her second goal on an assist from Lauren Scott in the 48th minute and four minutes later Scott scored an unassisted goal to make it 6-0. Sherwood picked up the hat trick in the 61st minute on another assist from Mavelian, and Scott tallied again in the 62nd minute. After playing the first half in goal, Franchesca Lozoya came in as a forward and got into the scoring action with a tally in the 66th minute with Mavelian again assisting to make it 9-0.

Ashley Rice would get her first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute and Hannah Poenisch picked up the game's final tally one minute later to make it an 11-0 final. Austin College owned a 19-2 shot advantage in the game, including a 12-0 edge in shots on goal. 

The 'Roos are home again on Friday when they host Hendrix College at 5:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
