'Roo Women's Soccer Opens SCAC Play with Win

The Austin College women's soccer team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a big victory on Friday, topping visiting Centenary College 3-1. The 'Roos are now 3-4 overall and 1-0 in SCAC play with the victory.

After most of the first half passed without much offense on either side, the 'Roos got on the board just after the 42 minute mark when Abby Saizow scored on a corner kick from Kelsey D'Amore, and the 'Roos would take that one goal margin into halftime.

Centenary equalized in the 68th minute when Traci Lee found Madison Alexander for a tally, but Austin College countered quickly with Natalie Nelms heading home a free kick from Ariel Marder just over a minute later to make it a 2-1 game. The 'Roos would add one more goal when Marder found Hannah Poenisch on a corner kick in the 80th minute to make it a 3-1 final.

Austin College owned a 23-8 shot advantage and got three saves from Emily Brockette in goal, while Brittaney Dunn made 10 stops for Centenary.
