'Roo Women's Soccer Blanked by Rhodes

The Austin College women's soccer team surrendered two goals in two minutes midway through the first half and was unable to recover, falling 2-0 to visiting Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 2-4 overall this season with the loss.

Both teams had strong opportunities early but it was the Lynx who got on the board first when Kelsey Keown tallied on an assist from Betsy Peterson at the 24:47 mark. Rhodes would add a second goal at the 26:46 mark when Hannah Selner's shot was blocked but fell to teammate Heidi Press, who found the back of the net.

That would remain the score the rest of the way despite strong scoring chances for both sides, including a late header from Rhodes that glanced off the post. The Lynx owned a 23-10 shot advantage in the game. Emily Brockette made nine saves for Austin College and Allison Cowling made five stops for Rhodes.

The 'Roos are off until Friday when they open up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home against Centenary College at 4:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
