Turnovers Doom 'Roos in Road Defeat at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team committed 40 turnovers, including 25 in the opening half, and made just 3-of-22 three pointers compared to 15-of-33 shooting from long range for Trinity in a 92-50 defeat on Friday evening in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The 'Roos are now 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Naomi Anamekwe came off the bench to score 11 points in 11 minutes to lead Austin College, as Trinity got out to a 19-10 lead after one quarter but opened things up in the second, outscoring the 'Roos 24-8 in the frame to head into halftime leading 43-18. A big third quarter for the Tigers pushed it to a 72-33 game heading into the final frame. Austin College hit better than 41% of their shots overall, but were just 13.6% from beyond the arc and also hit just 1-of-5 attempts from the free throw line, collectively. Trinity, meanwhile, knocked down 11-of-15 from the stripe.

Trinity had turnover issues of their own, giving the ball away 24 times, but the Tigers turned Austin College's turnovers into 45 points compared to just 13 points off of turnovers for the 'Roos. They also out-paced Austin College 24-6 in fast break points. Anamekwe made all five of her field goal attempts and was 1-of-2 from the free throw line to get her 11 points, and Kaylee Smith went 4-of-4 for eight points off the bench. Brooklyn Matthews added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, while Josie Napoli led Trinity with 22 points hitting 8-of-13 shots including all four of her attempts from long range.

Austin College will look to bounce back on Saturday when they head to Kerrville to take on Schreiner.
