Austin College Coasts Past Centenary

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team got on the board early and never relinquished their lead against Centenary, cruising past the Ladies 75-39 on Saturday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 4-9 overall and 3-2 in SCAC competition.

Natalie McCoy knocked down all four of her three point attempts on her way to a 16 point, three rebound, three assist performance and Sarah Putnicki added 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists to lead the 'Roos. Kacie West chipped in 12 points for Austin College, as the 'Roos shot 43.5% from the field and hit 8-of-22 threes as 11 different players scored in the game. Austin College won every quarter, leading 17-8 after the first 10 minutes and building a 41-23 lead at halftime. The lead grew to 53-34 after three, and the 'Roos dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Ladies 22-5 in the frame.

Centenary shot just 21% from the field and made only 2-of-19 threes, and the 'Roos hounded the Ladies into 22 turnovers. Centenary collected 18 offensive rebounds, but only managed to turn those boards into six second chance points. Austin College handed out 16 assists as a team, matching their season high. Centenary, meanwhile, had just six assists on their 13 made baskets. The 'Roos scored 25 points off of turnovers in the game, and also outscored the Ladies 28-16 in the paint.

McCoy hit 6-of-10 shots overall, while Putnicki was 6-of-8 from the floor. Sarah Gwin, Lauren Traylor, and Marianna Bert each chipped in six points in the balanced scoring attack for the 'Roos, with Traylor also hauling in a team-best seven rebounds. Traylor also had four steals and three blocked shots. Destini Powell led Centenary with 14 points.
