Austin College Women Cruise Past Centenary

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team hounded Centenary College into 30 turnovers while giving it away just five times themselves, and the 'Roos coasted to a 75-34 victory on Friday afternoon in Hughey Gym. Austin College is now 7-0 overall and 1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College overcame an off shooting night thanks to a strong defensive effort, hitting just 36% from the field and 21.4% from three point range, but the 'Roos had 17 steals and limited the Ladies to 27.3% shooting in the game. Austin College led 33-15 at halftime, but exploded for 33 points in the third quarter to take a commanding 66-26 lead heading into the fourth and they would cruise from there.

The 'Roos got a balanced scoring attack in the win, with 11 players putting points on the board. Addison Walling scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the first half, adding five rebounds. Katy Pool and Sarah Gwin came off the bench to combine for 14 points in that big third quarter to help put the game out of reach, with Pool scoring all eight of her points in the quarter while Gwin drilled a pair of threes.

Gwin finished with eight points and handed out a career-best six assists, while Reagan Chiaverini joined Walling in double-figures with 10 points and six boards. The 'Roos had 45 points coming from the bench, compared to just 10 bench points for Centenary. Austin College also turned those 30 Centenary turnovers into 30 points, while the Ladies had zero points off of turnovers.

Austin College will be looking to keep its momentum going on Saturday as they host the University of St. Thomas (Tex.) with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m.
