'Roo Women Pull Away for Win Over Hendrix

JACKSON, Miss. - Reagan Chiaverini had a career game to help the Austin College women's basketball team overcome a cold day offensively, as the 'Roos pulled away late for a 68-56 win over Hendrix. The 'Roos are now 5-0 on the year with the victory.

Chiaverini scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, both career highs, to notch her first career double-double and lead the 'Roos to the win at the Millsaps Classic. Austin College shot just 31.1% from the field and made only 1-of-18 three point attempts, but the 'Roos limited Hendrix to 26.2% shooting and forced 16 turnovers while also dominating the glass with a 51-to-39 edge. After leading 15-13 after the first quarter, the 'Roos pushed the margin to 34-16 at halftime before the Warriors used a big third quarter to cut it to 43-37 heading into the fourth.

However, the 'Roos clamped down defensively in the final quarter, holding Hendrix to 3-of-15 shooting, and got seven points from Natalie McCoy to pull away for the double-digit win. McCoy finished with 13 points and added three assists in the win. Ally Longaker scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the 'Roos, and Kacie West reached double figures for the fifth time this season with 12 points and added seven rebounds and three steals. The 'Roos knocked down 29-of-36 free throws as a team, including 7-of-7 in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Austin College is off until December 14, when they play host to the University of the Ozarks in Hughey Gym.
