Women's Hoops Cruises Past Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College women's basketball team got out to a slow start shooting the ball but finished the game knocking down 12 three pointers on their way to a 95-53 victory at Hendrix on Saturday afternoon to move to 2-0 on the year.

The 'Roos hit just 6-of-17 shots in the first quarter but still managed to build an 18-11 lead after one, forcing the Warriors into six early turnovers and dominating the boards by a 12-to-6 margin. Six of those rebounds came on the offensive end, helping the 'Roos find second chance opportunities to build their lead. The lead grew to 42-24 at halftime thanks largely to the hot shooting of Kacie West, who poured in 13 points in the quarter and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, including 3-of-3 from long distance. West wrapped up the first half with 19 points.

Austin College came out hot in the second half as well, shooting 9-of-15 in the third quarter to push the lead to 70-43 heading into the fourth quarter. The 'Roos coasted from there, with nine different players getting into the scoring column in the final frame. Overall, 15 players put points on the board for Austin College, paced by West's 23. The junior guard finished the game hitting 7-of-12 shot attempts, including 3-of-6 from deep and all six of her free throw attempts.

Ally Longaker chipped in 12 points and came up just short of a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds and adding three assists. Reagan Chiaverini added 11 points and eight boards, and Ann Savage scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out a pair of assists in the victory.

Austin College is back on the road Tuesday when they take on the University of Texas-Dallas at 2:00 p.m. in Richardson.
