'Roo Women Push Win Streak to Five

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games on Tuesday evening, coasting past the University of Dallas 80-41 in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 16-3 overall and 9-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic conference play.

Bryce Frank poured in 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Ann Savage dished out 10 assists in the victory, as the 'Roos overcame a subpar shooting night by forcing the Crusaders into 32 turnovers. The 'Roos hit just 6-of-18 field goal attempts in the opening quarter, taking a 14-9 lead after the first. Frank scored nine of the team's points in the first period.

Dallas squared things at 14 apiece early in the second, but Austin College would respond with a 15-0 run to take control. The 'Roos would continue to dominate the rest of the second quarter, heading into the locker room leading 38-18. Frank scored 17 of her points before halftime, and Addison Walling scored seven in the second frame.

Austin College pushed the advantage to 51-22 on a three from Reagan Chiaverini with 6:17 left in the third, and Alyssa Rivera's triple would make it a 58-27 game with just over a minute left in the quarter. The lead would stay above 30 points the rest of the way, and Rivera's trey with eight seconds left gave the 'Roos their largest lead at 80-39 before a last second bucket for Jules Oliveti to make it an 80-41 final. 

Frank knocked down 11-of-16 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line, and also handed out three assists and came away with three steals. Savage added four steals to her 10-assist performance, and Ally Longaker chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds. Kacie West had 10 points off the bench, and Walling and Chiaverini each scored nine. Austin College shot 40.8% from the field and hit just 4-of-21 from long distance, but scored 39 points off of turnovers and held a 40-to-32 edge on the glass.

Gracie Williams led Dallas with 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Faith Starnes hit 3-of-6 from long range on her way to 11 points as the only other Crusader in double digits. Dallas shot 42.5% from the field and made 5-of-14 from three-point range.

Austin College heads out on the road this weekend, taking on Trinity on Friday evening in San Antonio.
