Savage Leads 'Roos Past Millsaps

CONWAY, Ark. - Ann Savage knocked down 6-of-8 three pointers on her way to 21 points and the Austin College women's basketball team used a big third quarter to pull away from Millsaps on their way to a 77-59 win on Saturday at the SCAC/SAA Challenge. The 'Roos are now 2-0 on the year and will be looking to close out the weekend with a win against Hendrix on Sunday.

The 'Roos led 20-19 after the first quarter, as Megan Donaldson came off the bench for Millsaps to knock down 4-of-6 threes to keep things close. The margin started to widen in the second quarter, and the 'Roos would take a 38-33 lead into the break. Austin College connected on 4-of-6 threes and 7-of-11 shots overall in the quarter to begin pulling away. It was in the third quarter that Austin College fully took control, though, out-scoring the Majors 23-8 in the frame as Savage, Kacie West, and Reagan Chiaverini each knocked down a triple and the 'Roos hounded Millsaps into nine turnovers.

Savage would hit all three of her three-point attempts in the fourth quarter to help close things out and give the 'Roos the victory. Savage knocked down 7-of-10 shots overall in the game, adding two assists and two steals. Bryce Frank made 7-of-12 shots on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds, and Chiaverini chipped in 12 points off the bench. West also put in a strong performance from the bench, scoring 10 points, and Addison Walling had nine points, six assists, and six rebounds.
