Savage and Lewis Lead 'Roos Past Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ann Savage scored 19 points and Meghan Lewis added 14 to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Austin College women's basketball team in a 79-53 victory at Colorado College on Friday night. The win is the ninth straight for Austin College, bringing the team's record to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College scored the first five points before Colorado College reeled off seven in a row to take a 7-5 lead, but Lewis and Kacie West each buried a three to help Austin College go on top 17-11 with 2:43 left in the opening quarter. West knocked down another three to push it to a 24-15 margin, and a trey from Savage just before the buzzer gave the 'Roos a 29-18 lead after one.

Another three from Lewis early in the second quarter made it a 34-20 game, and the senior guard would hit again from deep to give Austin College a 39-24 cushion with 5:56 left before halftime. The 'Roos went cold over the next few minutes before a trey from Addison Walling made it 44-28, and the 'Roos would take a 44-32 lead into the break.

Austin College would begin to take complete control in the third, and another three by Lewis made it 58-39 with 1:07 left in the period, and that's where things would stand heading into the fourth quarter. A pair of threes from Savage early in the fourth extended the lead to 69-46, and a trey from West gave Austin College a 74-46 lead. Another three, this time from Mikayla Gascich, would make it 79-50 with under a minute to play.

Savage hit 7-of-15 shots to get 19 points and added six rebounds and six assists, and Lewis made 4-of-7 threes to tie her career-best with 14 points. West scored 10 of her 13 points in the first quarter, and Walling finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Bryce Frank scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in just 15 minutes after getting into early foul trouble.

Casey Torbet hit 7-of-13 shots to score 18 points for Colorado College, and McKenzee Gertz added 12. Austin College owned a 44-32 advantage on the boards and harassed the Tigers into 22 turnovers, while the 'Roos also hit 13 three pointers as a team.
