'Roos Earn Road Win at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College women's basketball team picked up its third straight victory, topping Millsaps College 66-59 on Thursday afternoon to improve to 5-4. Bryce Frank scored 23 points to lead the way for the 'Roos.

The 'Roos managed to shake off the rust from nearly two weeks off after having played their last game on December 2, overcoming a six point halftime deficit to top the Majors for the second time this year. Austin College defeated Millsaps 83-63 earlier this season in Hughey Gym.

The 'Roos got out to a strong start, leading 21-12 after the first quarter but turnovers and cold shooting by Austin College and some hot shooting by Millsaps enabled the Majors to win the second quarter 27-12 and lead 39-33 at halftime. Millsaps shot 61.5% overall and hit 4-of-6 threes in the frame to take the lead.

Both teams started slowly in the third quarter, but Frank scored eight points in the period as Austin College took a 47-46 lead heading into the fourth. The margin grew to 52-46 early in the fourth before Millsaps narrowed it to a 54-52 game, but Addy Walling splashed a three-pointer to give the 'Roos a bit of breathing room with 2:38 left to play. Walling would add a three-point-play, and late free throws by Ann Savage and Frank put the game away.

Frank hit 10-of-15 shots from the field to lead all scorers with 23 and added five rebounds and five assists. Walling finished with 13 points and stuffed the stat sheet with four rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals, and Ally Longaker scored 12 points and grabbed seven boards.

The 'Roos return home on Saturday when they host Rhodes College at 1:00 p.m. in Hughey Gym.
