'Roos Drop Heartbreaker at East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL, Texas - Austin College led by as many as 11 points but East Texas Baptist battled back and handed the 'Roos a 61-60 loss thanks to a three-point play with under 10 seconds to go. Austin College falls to 2-2 overall this year with the loss.

Ann Savage knocked down 6-of-11 three pointers to lead all scorers with 19 points, adding three rebounds and three assists. However, she was also the only Austin College player to reach double-digits in the scoring column as the 'Roos shot just 41.5% from the field as a team and committed 24 turnovers. Austin College fell behind 7-2 early but controlled the rest of the first half. The 'Roos would head into the break leading 29-24.

In the third quarter, a bucket by Kendra Rainey made it a 39-29 lead but ETBU scored 10 in a row to square things up. Jessica Atwell's three-point play just before the end of the quarter sent Austin College into the fourth leading 42-39. The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter, and Addy Walling's three with 2:23 to play gave Austin College a 59-56 lead. Savage hit one of two free throws to put the 'Roos ahead 60-58 with 17 seconds remaining, but ETBU's Sydney Saxton got into the lane and scored while drawing a foul with just eight seconds left. Saxton hit the free throw, and Savage's last-second attempt missed.

Bryce Frank had nine points and eight rebounds, and Ally Longaker chipped in eight points off the bench. Meghan Lewis scored seven points and added five steals in the loss.
