Austin College Women Roll Past Millsaps

SHERMAN, Texas – Bryce Frank led a balanced scoring effort with 18 points and the Austin College women's basketball team shot 51.5% from the field as the 'Roos rolled past Millsaps College 83-63 on Sunday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 2-1 overall this season.

The 'Roos sprinted out to a 7-0 lead for the second straight game, and a basket by Frank made it 13-6 with just over five minutes left in the opening quarter. Millsaps trimmed the margin to 15-12 before Kacie West knocked down a three and Addy Walling scored to push it to a 20-12 game, and Walling would hit a step-back three just before the buzzer to give the 'Roos a 25-18 lead after one.

Kendra Rainey scored eight in a row early in the second to help push the Austin College lead to 35-24, and the lead grew to 39-26 on a layup by Meghan Lewis with 5:16 left before halftime. Austin College would push the lead to 15 on a three by Ann Savage to make it 48-33, and Ally Longaker's tip-in at the buzzer sent the 'Roos into the locker room with a 52-35 edge.

Austin College struggled to get going offensively in the third, going without a bucket for more than three minutes until Frank scored inside to make it a 54-39 game. The 'Roos pushed the lead to 20 for the first time in the game on a layup by Longaker to make it 65-45 with 2:23 left in the quarter. Tiffany Litton's jumper with under 10 seconds left in the third gave Austin College a 69-48 lead heading into the fourth.

Millsaps got the lead down to 15 with under five minutes to go on a three-point play by Dia Fortenberry to make it 73-58, but Walling and Litton each knocked down a three to help extend the lead back to 81-60 and put the game out of reach.

Frank hit 9-of-14 shots to get her 18 points and added eight rebounds, and Longaker and Walling each had 12, with Walling adding five assists and five rebounds. West hit 4-of-6 shots on her way to 11 points, and Rainey finished with 10 for the 'Roos.

Fortenberry led all scorers with 21 points, and Braxton Thomas was the lone other Millsaps player to reach double figures with 11. Thomas also had a team-best eight rebounds. Anna Thigpen chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.
