Austin College Women Clinch SCAC Tournament Bid

The Austin College women's basketball team topped the University of Dallas 63-51 on Friday night, clinching a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in the process. The 'Roos are now 15-6 overall and 7-3 in SCAC play with the victory.

Austin College got off to a slow start, trailing 16-9 after the first quarter, and the 'Roos found themselves behind 26-25 at halftime. The 'Roos managed to take the lead in the third quarter as both teams struggled to find much offense in the period, with Austin College heading into the fourth with a 36-34 edge.

However, the 'Roos exploded for 27 points in the fourth quarter to open things up, cruising to the 12 point victory in the game's final 10 minutes. Ann Savage scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the fourth, knocking down 3-of-5 from long distance in the period. Kendall Heitmeier and Bryce Frank each had a double-double, with Heitmeier scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while Frank scored 14 points and pulled down 12 boards.

Austin College shot just 41.7% from the field in the game, but knocked down 54.5% of its field goal attempts in the fourth.
