Gowdy's Career Day Leads 'Roos Past Millsaps

Katie Gowdy scored a career-best 21 points, hitting 8-of-9 shots and 3-of-3 triples to lead the Austin College women's basketball team past Millsaps College 76-68 on Sunday. The 'Roos are now 3-0 with the victory.

Both teams came out of the gates slowly with the 'Roos taking a 13-9 lead after one quarter, but Austin College caught fire in the second quarter, outscoring the Majors 32-11 in the period to take a 45-20 halftime lead. The 'Roos used a 16-2 run to open up the second quarter to take their commanding first half lead.

The 'Roos maintained their big lead through three quarters, leading 63-37 heading into the fourth quarter, when the Majors made at attempt at a furious comeback, pouring in 31 points in the frame but coming up short despite closing the game on a 17-1 run. 

Gowdy was one of three Austin College players to reach double figures, joined by Bryce Frank and Brianna Harvey. Frank scored 12 points, adding six rebounds and four assists, and Harvey finished with 11 points and five boards.

Millsaps was led by Braxton Thomas, who scored 29 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.
