Rhodes College scored with 6.5 seconds left to go up one and the Austin College women's basketball team was unable to answer, falling 54-53 to the No. 25-ranked Lynx in Memphis on Sunday. The 'Roos are now 2-3 overall this season.

Austin College used some stifling defense in the first half to grab a 24-17 lead with 4:02 left in the first half, but Rhodes closed the half on an 11-2 run to head into the break leading the 'Roos 28-26. Brianna Harvey scored 10 in the first half to lead the 'Roos, while the defensive effort held the Lynx to just 26.9% shooting in the opening period.

In the second half, Rhodes took a 38-34 lead midway through the frame but a three pointer from Katie Gowdy and a short jumper by Kali Vittallo cut it to a 40-39 game with the Lynx on top, and Harvey scored to put Austin College ahead 41-40 with 7:14 left. The Lynx went up 48-45 four minutes later before four straight free throws from Christina Kime put Austin College on top 49-48 with 1:34 remaining.

Rhodes regained the lead on a basket by Sarah Johnson with 22 seconds left before Kime went the length of the floor and drew a foul, sinking both free throws to put Austin College on top 53-52 with 12 seconds remaining. However, Rhodes would get a baseline jumper from Dy'Nelle Todman with 6.5 seconds left to put the Lynx up 54-53 and Austin College would be unable to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.

Harvey finished with 15 points and five rebounds, and Kime added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the loss. Erin Riley pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the 'Roos.

Todman led all scorers with 20 points for the Lynx, adding eight rebounds in the game.
