Women's Hoops Edged at UT-Dallas

The Austin College women's basketball team had a chance to force overtime at the buzzer but were unable to convert, falling 67-64 in a road game at the University of Texas-Dallas on Friday night. The 'Roos are now 1-2 overall this season.

The Comets opened the game with a 9-0 run before Christina Kime got the 'Roos on the board with 17:21 left in the opening half, and the trio of Kime, Erin Riley, and Brianna Harvey were able to pull Austin College to within two at 13-11. The Comets pushed the lead to 28-17 with 4:32 left in the opening half, but Austin College closed the half strong and Riley knocked down a trey with one second left to make it 35-27 at halftime.

The 'Roos kept things close throughout the second half, getting the margin down to one at 42-41 on a basket by Kime with 13:53 left to play, but UTD never relinquished the lead, ultimately staying ahead for the entirety of the game. Austin College finished the game shooting 50% from the field, including knocking down 12-of-20 shots after halftime, but the Comets held a 34-23 rebounding edge and outscored the 'Roos 13-0 in second chance points for the game.

Kime finished with 18 points, and in the process surpassed 1,000 points for her career. She now has 1,005 points in her four year career. Kime added four rebounds and three assists, while Riley hit 4-of-6 three pointers to finish with 14 points, three boards, and three assist. Harvey hit 4-of-4 field goals and 6-of-6 free throws to finish with 14 points and six rebounds in the loss.
