Late Run Propels 'Roo Women Past ETBU

The Austin College women's basketball team closed with a 14-1 run to top East Texas Baptist University 72-62 on Tuesday night in Marshall. The 'Roos are now 1-1 overall this season.

The 'Roos fell behind in both halves, trailing 24-16 in the first half before six points from Brianna Harvey helped Austin College square things up at 28 with 2:11 left before halftime, and after ETBU took a two point lead at 30-28, the 'Roos closed the half on a 9-3 run capped off by a layup by Paige Picciotti at the buzzer to head into the locker room leading 37-33.

Austin College got six straight points from Harvey early in the second half to extend the lead to 48-41 with 14:22 to play, but a 10-0 run by East Texas Baptist put the Tigers back in the lead just two minutes later. The ETBU lead grew to 59-52 with with 8:45 left but the Austin College clamped down, and Alix Hoffman hit a pair of key jumpers to help pull the 'Roos to within one at 59-58.

The Tigers got a bucket with 5:47 left but Austin College would use their big 14-1 run, kicked off by a three pointer from Jenna Longo and including nine points from Christina Kime, to pull ahead and earn the double-digit victory.

Harvey finished the game hitting 10-of-13 shots to establish a new career high for the second straight game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Kime finished with 16 points and added eight assists and four boards, and Erin Riley scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
