'Roo Distance Track Starts Strong as Richards Breaks Two Records

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hannah Richards opened the 2018 season off with a bang, breaking two program records while placing in the top five in both events at the Trinity Open on Saturday.

Richards placed fourth in the 1500 meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 5:02.19 and breaking her own school record in the process. Richards had previously set the program mark last season with a time of 5:06.30. She would later break a record that had stood for nearly 30 years in the 5000 meter race, finishing with a time of 19:24.17 and breaking the previous mark of 19:36, set back in 1989 by Lisa Lucky. Richards placed fifth in the event on Saturday.

Alex Quinn added a 16th place finish in the 1500 meter race, finishing with a time of 5:29.29, and Bailey Clark was 20th in the same event with a time of 5:41.33. On the men's side, Chris Biffar was 22nd in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:28.91, and added a 13th place finish in the 5000 meter event with a time of 17:50.25. Burhan Biviji placed 30th in the 1500 meters, coming in with a time of 5:05.35.
