The Austin College community experienced a tragedy in February 2011
with the death of Chase Matthew Gaddy
of the Class of 2014 in a traffic accident in Sherman.
Arriving at Austin College in fall 2010, Chase quickly made friends and continued his passion for athletics as a member of the Kangaroo swimming and diving team. He had an excellent regular season, and in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet on February 16, Chase placed eighth in the 1-meter diving event, scoring 338.95 and placing higher at the event than any Austin College male diver since the ’Roos joined the conference.
Family members and friends made gifts to fund improvements to Austin College’s Hannah Natatorium diving area in Chase’s honor in December 2011, and a moment of silence honored Chase’s memory as the plaque for the area was unveiled.
