'Roo Swimming Sets Records on Day One of SCAC Championship

The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams had several strong performances, including three record setting swims, on day one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Wednesday night.

The relay team of Erik Gentzel, Josh Chanin, Amit Pullarkat, and Braedon Mitchell established a new Austin College record in the 200 medley relay, coming in fifth in the event with a time of 1:38.25. The men also set another program record in the 800 freestyle relay, with Mitchell, Jake Cole, Chanin, and Collin Vu finishing with a time of 7:18.90. The previous record, which had stood for 22 years, was 7:21.31.

Parker Adams earned All-SCAC honors in the 1-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 228.65.

On the women's side, the 'Roos took fifth place in the 200 medley relay, with Lauren Wheeler, Simran Likhari, Caitlyn Brugger, and Sophie Anderson finishing with a time of 2:00.20. Wheeler set a new school record as the lead off leg in the 800 freestyle relay, breaking her own mark with a time of 1:59.28 to set the pace for her relay teammates Likhari, Anderson, and Sarah Mann, who finished with a time of 8:35.48 to take fifth place.

Action resumes tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
