Strong Performances Highlight Relay Meet for 'Roo Swimming

The Austin College women's swimming team topped Wayland Baptist and the men finished second behind WBU and ahead of St. Gregory's in the team's relay meet in Hannah Natatorium on Friday evening.

The 'Roo women bested Wayland Baptist 86-56 in the relay meet, while the men scored 84 points to claim second in their three team meet. On the women's side, the 'Roos picked up several first place finishes including the team of Caitlyn Brugger, Sarah Mann, Sophie Anderson, and Lauren Wheeler finishing with a time of 4:53.79 in the 400 yard medley relay.

The 'Roos also won the 200 yard medley relay, getting a time of 2:05.01 from the team of Ishita Ralhan, Brugger, Mandi Sarembock, and Wheeler, and Austin College also earned wins in the 3x100 backstroke and 3x100 breaststroke. 

On the men's side, the 'Roos picked up a big win in the 3x100 backstroke with the team of Steven Cole, Eric Drake, and Erik Gentzel edging out Wayland Baptist with a time of 3:01.99 for a first place finish. Cole then teamed with Collin Vu, Braedon Mitchell, and Gentzel to earn another win in the 200 yard freestyle relay, coming in with a time of 1:32.83 in the event.

Josh Chanin, Gentzel, Vu, and Mitchell also earned a victory in the 400 yard medley relay, finishing with a time of 3:56.94, nearly six seconds better than the second place team.
