Wheeler's Second Place Finish Highlights Strong Final Day at SCAC Championship

Lauren Wheeler finished second in the 200 yard backstroke, her second All-SCAC performance of the weekend, as the 'Roo swimming and diving team had a strong finish to the conference championship on Saturday. Wheeler also broke the Austin College record in the 100 yard freestyle in the lead leg of the 400 free relay, and Bentley Gilbert and Amit Pullarkat also had program record swims to close out the meet.

Wheeler finished with a time of 2:08.83 in the 200 back, becoming the first Austin College swimmer to ever earn multiple All-Conference honors at the SCAC Championship. She also swam the 100 free in a time of 54.41 to establish a new program record to help Austin College finish sixth in the 400 free relay. 

Gilbert broke a 20 year old Austin College record in the 50 freestyle, coming in with a time of 21.83 in time trials, and Pullarkat set a new 200 yard butterfly record with a timie of 1:58.99, placing seventh in the event.

Also swimming well were Erik Gentzel, who finished seventh in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.40. Josh Chanin had a strong swim in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.69 in the consolation heat, and on the women's side Molly Zhang had a time of 2:19.81 in the 200 yard backstroke.

Overall, seven program records fell over the course of the championship.
