Four More 'Roo Records Fall at SCAC Swim Meet

Four more Austin College swimming records fell on Friday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship in Rockwall. That makes seven new records established in all as the 'Roos continue to make this one of the most successful and memorable weekends in recent program history.

On the women's side, Lauren Wheeler finished fourth in the 100 backstroke and broke the Austin College record twice in the process, first in prelims and then with a time of 59.45 in the finals. Wheeler also set her sixth school record in helping the 800 freestyle relay team take fifth place with a time of 8:37.88. Wheeler's lead off leg established a new mark in the 200 freestyle.

Maggie Autry and Jade Ross also had strong showings in the 100 breastroke, with Autry finishing sixth with a time of 1:15.70 and Ross finishing right behind her with a time of 1:18.39. The women also took fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.94. In the 200 freestyle, Anne Booker took 13th, Dory Johnson took 14th, and Brette Grieder took 16th.

On the men's side, Jacob Fenster broke the old school mark in the 100 butterfly, a mark that was also passed by Amit Pullarkat. Fenster broke the record both in prelims and the finals, where he finished ninth with a time of 53.35. Pullarkat finished with a time of 53.96, which was also below the old school record.

The men's 200 medley relay team finished fifth and broke the old school record with a time of 1:40.01. Josh Chanin finished eighth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:28.93, Charlie Overton finished 15th in the 100 butterfly, and Erik Gentzel came within a second of breaking the old school record in the 100 backstroke, finishing 10th with a time of 55.42.

The men also took fifth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:27.96, and Zack Bengston earned All-SCAC honors after taking third place in the 3-meter diving event. Both teams will be looking to continue their record setting weekend as the SCASC Championship Meet comes to a close today.
