Wheeler Sets School Record at Southwest Shootout

Lauren Wheeler set a new Austin College swimming and diving record in the 50 freestyle on Friday night at the Southwest Shootout at Southlake Carroll. Wheeler topped the previous mark twice in both the 200 free relay and the individual 50 freestyle event.

In the 200 free relay, Wheeler set a new school record when she swam the lead off leg of the event in 25.37, and topped her own record setting swim with a time of 25.02 in the individual event, good for a second place finish. That also marked the first time in the past five years that any Austin College women's swimmer placed in the top 10 in an individual event at the Southwest Shootout, which also features Centenary, Trinity, UT-Permian Basin, Southwestern, McMurry, and Hendrix.

Wheeler and the rest of the Kangaroo men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in the pool on Saturday for day two of the Southwest Shootout beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
