'Roo Swimming Kicks Off Season with Strong Performance

The Austin College swimming and diving team opened up its 2012-2013 season at the Hendrix College Invitational on Friday, with several swimmers putting in strong performances at the meet as the 'Roos were one of only two Division III schools to compete.

The 'Roo men's team topped host school Hendrix, thanks in large part to the performance of Jacob Fenster, who matched his personal best in the 100 fly split in the 400 medley relay. Fenster also had strong performances in the 200 freestyle and put in one of his best ever splits in the 100 free on the 400 free relay.

The women's team finished behind Hendrix at the meet, though first year swimmer Lauren Wheeler had an outstanding debut, finishing just 0.2 seconds shy of the Austin College record in the 200 backstroke.

The 'Roos are back in the pool Saturday for the Hendrix College Relays at 12:00 p.m.
