SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team picked up a pair of wins to improve to 8-12 overall on the year on Thursday, sweeping visiting Sewanee at Old Settlers Park. The 'Roos took game one 7-3 before getting an 8-0 game two victory over the Tigers.

Sewanee got on the board first in game one, with Michaela Walker singling home a run to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. Lizzy Preston came home on a double steal in the bottom half of the inning, and after the Tigers went on top 2-1 in the second, Hailie Swiatkowski and Taylor Levan each knocked in a run in the bottom of the second to put the 'Roos on top 3-2. A solo homer by Sarah Wright tied things up for Sewanee in the third, but Austin College would score four unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth to put the Tigers away.

Joli Kirkpatrick brought home one run in the fourth to make it 4-3, and Alice Maisonet scored on a throwing error in the top of the fifth to kickoff a three run frame. Carrie Johnson added an RBI double, and Chyrsi Hemby brought home one more run to make it a 7-3 final. Sewanee loaded the bases in the seventh, but Johnson ended the game with a double play from the outfield when she made a running catch in center and got a force at second base. Preston and Hemby each went 2-for-4 in the game, while Swiatkowski got the victory in the circle after giving up three runs on nine hits in a complete game performance.

A pair of errors opened the door for two runs in the bottom of the first of game two as Austin College grabbed a 2-0 lead and never looked back, with the 'Roos adding four runs in the third to make it a 6-0 game. Hemby got the scoring started in the third with an RBI single, and Swiatkowski followed with an RBI of her own. Lindsay Busch brought home another run, and Avery Atencio rounded out the scoring with an RBI double.

Lauren Orozco tripled home a run in the sixth to make it a 7-0 game, and the 'Roos ended things when Hemby doubled to bring home Orozco in that same inning to make it an 8-0 final score. Orozco went 4-for-4 at the dish with a double and a triple while scoring three runs, and Hemby went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Johnson went the distance in the circle, pitching a shutout two-hitter in 6.0 innings of work with three strikeouts.
