Concordia Sweeps 'Roos in Season Opener

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its season-opening doubleheader at Concordia University-Texas on Saturday, falling 21-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

Concordia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game one, tacking on two more runs in the second inning to make it a 6-0 game. The Tornados erupted for 10 more runs in the third to make it 16-0, and pushed five runs across in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 21-0 with the game ending after the fifth. Austin College was limited to one hit in the game, with Sarah Ramirez singling, while Ashley Elliott absorbed the loss after surrendering 14 runs - 13 earned - on eight hits with five walks in 2.1 innings of work. Four players each knocked in three runs for Concordia, while Bailey Tisdale went the distance in the circle, striking out 10 batters to pick up the win.

In game two, it was Austin College who struck first when Elizabeth Preston tripled to right field, bringing home Lyndsey Busch to make it a 1-0 game. The Tornados responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs to grab the lead at 2-1. That remained the score until the bottom of the third, when Concordia plated three runs to make it a 5-1 game, and another run came across in the fourth to make it 6-1. The Tornados would end the game in the bottom of the fifth, pushing three more runs across to make it a 9-1 final score after five innings of action.

Busch and Preston each went 1-for-2 at the plate to collect Austin College's two hits in the game, while Hannah Richendollar took the loss after giving up nine runs - five earned - on 12 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Simone Langland earned the win for Concordia.
