'Roos Fall Twice to No. 8 Texas Lutheran

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its doubleheader against No. 8-ranked Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 10-1 and game two 11-0. The 'Roos are now 0-27 on the year and 0-16 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. 

In game one, the Bulldogs took advantage of three hit batters and a fielding error to jump out to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning, and added three more runs in the second to make it an 8-0 game. Another run came home on a sacrifice fly by Haley Padilla in the third, and the Bulldogs would add their final run in the fifth to go ahead 10-0. Austin College got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, with Marisa Duke singling home Ashley Elliott to make it a 10-1 final. 

Adina Ybarra took the loss for Austin College, giving up five runs on three hits in 0.1 innings of work, while Ashley Mayorga went 2-for-2 to lead Austin College offensively. TLU's Skylar Ouellette went 3-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs. 

Neither team scored in the opening frame of game two, but four runs came across for Texas Lutheran in the second inning and two more scored in the third to make it a 6-0 game. An error opened the door to another run in the fifth, and Casey Martin had an inside the park grand slam in that same inning to make it an 11-0 final. 

Jaide Vidal had Austin College's lone hit in the game, while Jordan Proctor went the distance in the circle to take the loss, giving up 11 runs – only five earned – on 13 hits as Austin College committed five errors in the game.

Austin College is on the road next weekend when they travel to Irving to take on the University of Dallas with a four-game series beginning on April 6.
