Trinity Takes Two From 'Roo Softball

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-opening doubleheader to Trinity on Friday evening, falling 10-1 in game one and 8-2 in game two. The 'Roos are now 0-13 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Game one was scoreless through two innings before Trinity put two runs on the board in the top of the third, and the 'Roos took advantage of a pair of errors by the Tigers to make it 2-1 heading into the fourth. Trinity added two more runs in the fourth, and then erupted for four runs in the fifth to make it an 8-1 game. Two additional runs came across in the sixth to make it a 10-1 final. 

Taylor Groover took the loss for Austin College, surrendering four runs – only one earned – on three hits with six walks in 4.0 innings of work. Ashley Mayorga paced the 'Roos at the plate, going 2-for-3.

In game two, Trinity jumped on top early with two runs in the first inning, and added an extra run in the second. Two more runs came home in the third to make it 5-0, and the margin grew to 7-0 in the top of the fifth. Austin College got one run back in the bottom of the fifth when Jaide Vidal singled to left to bring home Mari Prazak, but the Tigers plated one more in the sixth to make it an 8-1 game. Emma Martinez drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-2, but that's as close as things would get the rest of the way.

Jordan Proctor absorbed the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs – five earned – on 11 hits in a complete game performance. Mayorga once again led Austin College offensively, going 2-for-4, while Prazak went 1-for-3 with a double. 

Austin College will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they take on Trinity for another doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
