Ecclesia Tops 'Roos in Doubleheader

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College softball team fell twice to visiting Ecclesia College on Sunday afternoon at Old Settlers Park, dropping game one 12-1 before their game two rally came up short in a 9-5 loss. The 'Roos are now 0-11 overall on the year. 

In game one, the Royals got on the board with a run in the top of the first and exploded for five more runs in the second to go ahead 6-0. Austin College put a run across in the bottom half of the second, with Hannah Swanson scoring on an error to make it 6-1. Ecclesia got another run in the third, and the score remained 7-1 until the top of the sixth, when five runs came home for the Royals to make it a 12-1 final.

Austin College was limited to three hit in the game, with Emma Martinez, Mari Prazak, and Marisa Duke each collecting a single. Jordan Proctor went the distance in the circle and took the loss after surrendering 12 runs on 14 hits. 

Ecclesia got two runs in the top of the first in game two after a pair of Austin College errors, but the 'Roos cut the margin in half in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Prazak. The Royals scored in the top of the second, and the score remained 3-1 until two runs came home for Ecclesia in the fourth to make it 5-1.  

Austin College cut it to a 5-2 game when Prazak scored on an error by Ecclesia, but the Royals plated four in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead. The 'Roos started to rally in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs to cut it to 9-5 when Prazak doubled home a pair of runs and Duke brought home another run with a sacrifice fly, but that's as close as things would get.

Cassidy McDaris went 3-for-4 with a run score and Prazak finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI to lead Austin College, while Jaide Vidal, Ashley Elliott, and Ashley Mayorga each had two hits. Austin College collected 14 hits as a team in the game. Elliott took the loss, giving up nine runs – four earned – on 13 hits in a complete game performance.
