Austin College Softball Falls to Hendrix

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its twinbill on Saturday, dropping game one 10-4 to Hendrix before the Warriors handed the 'Roos a 10-2 defeat in game two. Austin College is now 0-9 overall on the year. 

In game one, the Warriors got on the board early with a double steal in the top of the first to make it a 1-0 game, and a big second inning would put Hendrix ahead 6-0. In that frame, Jaydan Hunt tripled home two runs before Karli Sewell added a three-run homer, and Hunt would homer herself in the top of the fourth to make it 7-0. Later in the fourth, Olivia Reames launched a two-run shot to push the margin to 9-0.

The 'Roos got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when a pair of runs came home on a single by Cassidy McDaris, but Aubrey Brink added a solo homer for the Warriors in the seventh to make it 10-2. Austin College would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a throwing error and then getting an RBI single by Mari Prazak to make it a 10-4 final. 

Jaide Vidal went 3-for-3 to pace Austin College at the plate, and Prazak finished 2-for-3. Taylor Groover took the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work. 

The Warriors once again got on the board in the first inning in game two, and added three runs in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Austin College would get two runs back in the bottom of the third, with Vidal and McDaris each driving in a run. However, Hendrix would get a pair of RBI doubles in the fourth to make it 7-2, and three more runs came across in the fifth to make it a 10-2 final after five. 

Emma Martinez was 3-for-3 to lead the 'Roos offensively, while four other Austin College players collected a hit each. Groover took the loss, giving up four runs – three earned – on five hits in 2.0 innings of work.

Austin College is back in action tomorrow when the 'Roos host Ecclesia College for a doubleheader at noon.
