Softball Falls to Millsaps and McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in each of its non-conference games on Saturday, with the 'Roos being edged 3-1 by Millsaps before dropping a 14-3 decision against McMurry. The 'Roos are now 0-4 to open the season.

In the first game of the day against Millsaps, the 'Roos and Majors were scoreless until the sixth inning, when Millsaps plated three runs. Austin College managed to get one run back in the top of the seventh, but was unable to complate the rally. Ashley Elliott provided the run with an RBI single, scoring Cassidy McDaris. Elliott finished the game 1-for-4, while McDaris went 2-for-3 and Emma Martinez went 3-for-3 at the dish. Taylor Groover took the loss, surrending three runs - all unearned - on six hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

Against McMurry, the War Hawks put two runs across in the top of the first and tacked on five runs in the second to go on top 7-0 early. Six more runs came home in the fourth, pushing the deficit to 13-0. Austin College got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, with Marisa Duke driving in a pair of runs in the inning. McMurry would add one more run in the fifth to make it a 14-3 final. Duke went 1-for-2 to lead the 'Roos offensively, while Jordan Proctor absorbed the loss after giving up seven runs - three earned - on five hits in 2.0 innings of work.

Austin College is home next weekend as the 'Roos host Jarvis Christian on February 10 with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
