'Roo Softball Falls at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College softball team fell in a 3-0 hole after the first inning and never recovered, dropping an 8-0 decision on the road at Millsaps on Friday. The 'Roos are now 1-5 overall on the season.

The Majors (7-1) plated three runs in the bottom of the first, with all three runs coming after the 'Roos had recorded two outs. Hailey Pearson singled home two runs to open the scoring, with Leslie Norris also driving in a run in the inning. Millsaps would add another run in the second and one more in the third to make it a 5-0 game, and two more runs would cross the plate in the fourth to put the Majors ahead 7-0. In the fifth inning, the Majors got a leadoff triple from Mackenzie Johnson, and Johnson would score in the next at bat to end the game 8-0 via the run-rule.

Lauren Mara, Ashley Elliott, and Madison Mahaffey each went 1-for-2 for Austin College as the 'Roos were limited to three hits in the game, while Alyssa McDowell surrendered eight runs on 11 hits in 4.0 innings to take the loss.

Austin College's final three games of the weekend - two against Missouri Baptist and one more against the Majors - were canceled due to inclement weather in Jackson.
