Austin College Splits with Dallas

IRVING, Texas - The Austin College softball team split its doubleheader at the University of Dallas on Saturday, falling 9-1 in game one before bouncing back with a 9-6 game two victory. The 'Roos are now 8-30 overall and 3-19 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Dallas scored one run in each of the first five innings in game one to take a 5-0 lead, and after Austin College plated a run with a Taylor Van Kirk single in the sixth, the Crusaders ended the game with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. In game two, Austin College put three runs across in the top of the first, with Van Kirk's two-run single highlighting the inning. McDaris doubled home two runs in the inning, and the lead grew to 9-2 in the top of the sixth before Dallas scored once in the bottom half of the inning. The Crusaders would add three more runs in the seventh, but that's as close as things would get.

Tori Herrera got the win, going the distance and giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts. McDaris finished 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, and Van Kirk went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Wright and Ashley Mayorga each had three hits in the win.
