Texas Lutheran Takes Two From 'Roo Softball

Texas Lutheran Takes Two From 'Roo Softball

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Texas Lutheran, falling 19-0 in five innings in game one before dropping a 6-0 decision in game two. The 'Roos are now 4-20 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

Game one was scoreless through two innings, but an RBI triple from Kaymee Gooden kicked off a five run third inning for the Bulldogs. Texas Lutheran would plate five more in the fourth, as Gooden led off the inning with a homer, and the Bulldogs would put nine runs across in the fifth inning to push it to a 19-0 game.

Emily Low went 2-for-2 to lead Austin College offensively as the 'Roos were limited to three hits, while Kat Wright suffered the loss after surrending 18 runs on 12 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Amanda Lochte got the win for TLU, striking out seven batters in 5.0 innings.

The second half of the twin bill was a pitcher's duel between Austin College's Tori Herrera and TLU's Maitlin Raycroft, with the lone run of the game's first six innings coming via an error. TLU would plate a runner in the top of the third on an errant throw to go ahead 1-0, and that's how things would stay until the top of the seventh. In that inning, Nicole Snow's bases clearing triple highlighted a five run frame for the Bulldogs as they pushed the margin to 6-0, and that's how it would stay.

Herrera suffered the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits in a complete game performance while striking out six. Raycroft struck out 16 batters and allowed just one hit to earn the win for Texas Lutheran.

The 'Roos and Bulldogs will close out the weekend series tomorrow at Old Settlers Park with the first game set to begin at 12:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
