SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its twin bill with Southwestern on Saturday, dropping game one 13-1 before being downed 4-2 in game two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The 'Roos are now 3-15 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Southwestern jumped on top 3-0 after the first inning, and exploded for six runs in the second to quickly make it a 9-0 deficit for Austin College. The 'Roos put one run across in the third when Jordan Proctor drove in Courtney Gonzales, but Southwestern got homers from Katie Bricarell and Taylor Curtis, along with an RBI double from Nadia Netek in the fourth to make it 13-1, and that's how the game would end in the fifth via the run-rule.

Kat Wright took the loss for Austin College, surrendering eight runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings of work. Beth Massey went 1-for-2 as Netek, who picked up the win for the Pirates, limited Austin College to just one hit in the game.

Southwestern opened up game two with a run in the top of the first, and three RBI doubles for the Pirates in the top of the fifth pushed the margin to 4-0. Austin College got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Ashley Mayorga launched a two run homer to cut it to a 4-2 lead, but that's as close as the 'Roos would get down the stretch.

Tori Herrera absorbed the loss for Austin College, surrendering four runs – three earned – with seven strikeouts in a complete game effort. Mayorga finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
