'Roo Softball Drops Pair to Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped a pair of games to Hardin-Simmons on the road on Tuesday, falling 6-2 in game one before taking a 10-0 loss in game two. The 'Roos are now 3-11 overall on the year.

In game one, Hardin-Simmons jumped on top with a run in the bottom of the first, but Austin College responded in the second to square things at 1-1. HSU countered in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead, but Beth Massey knocked in a run in the fourth to once again tie things up. However, the tie would be shortlived as HSU answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-2, and one more run would come across in the sixth to seal things.

Tori Herrera took the loss for Austin College, surrendering six runs on 11 hits in a complete game effort with four strikeouts. Massey went 2-for-4, and Kat Wright went 2-for-3 to pace the offense.

In game two, HSU got out to a fast start with three runs in the first and two more in the second to quickly go on top 5-0, and three more runs scored in the third to make it an 8-0 game. The Cowgirls would add two more in the bottom of the fourth, and Austin College would be unable to answer in the mercy rule shortened game.

Wright absorbed the loss, giving up eight runs - six earned - on 10 hits in 3.0 innings of work. Massey once again led the 'Roos at the plate, going 2-for-3.
