Laster Named Head Softball Coach

SHERMAN, Texas – Kat Laster has been named the new head coach of the Austin College softball team, athletics director David Norman has announced. Laster most recently served as an assistant coach at Hamilton College in New York.

"After an extensive national search, we're excited to welcome Kat to the Austin College family," said Norman. "Not only does she have an outstanding understanding of the NCAA Division III level from her time at Hamilton, but her strong ties to high school and club softball in Texas made her an ideal candidate."

Laster is a 2014 graduate of Texas A&M University, and is currently working toward her master's degree at Texas Woman's University. In her time at Hamilton, she managed the team's pitching staff while also working with the catchers and outfielders. She was also involved in national recruiting for the program, including recruiting the state of Texas.

"I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to join the Austin College athletics department and share their commitment to excellence in the classroom, in the community, and on the field," said Laster. "I would like to thank David Norman and Tim Millerick for this incredible opportunity."

Prior to working at Hamilton, Laster served as the head coach at Iola High School. In her season at the helm, Iola finished with a playoff qualifying record of 16-9. She also served as the head coach for the Southern Force-Texas 14 and under travel team, and guided that club to the 14U ASA Nationals.

Laster also served as an assistant at Gulf Coast State College in 2014, helping that team qualify for the 2014 NJCAA Florida State Tournament. In 2012 and 2013, she also served as the head coach for America's Team, which consisted of softball players from across the country. She coached that team against Italian professional teams, amassing a 5-0 record.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
