Softball Season Comes to a Close with Pair of Losses

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell in both halves of its season ending doubleheader against Centenary College on Saturday, dropping game one 5-2 before falling 11-3 in five innings in game two. The 'Roos finish the year with a record of 14-26 overall.

In game one, Wendy Gillet put Centenary on the board with a solo homer in the second, but Austin College squared things in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Kylee Fowler. However, multiple errors opened the door for three runs in the third for the Ladies to make it 4-1, and another run came home in the fifth to make it 5-1.

Austin College plated one in the bottom of the seventh when Raquel Vara scored on an error but that'd be as close as the 'Roos would get. Tori Herrera took the loss, going the distance and surrendering five runs – only one earned – while striking out a pair. Fowler and Jaylin Clevenger each had two hits.

In the second game, Centenary went ahead 1-0 in the first inning and plated six in the second to go ahead 7-0 early. Austin College chipped away at the lead with a sacrifice fly from Delaney England scoring Clevenger in the third, and Felicia Rivera belted a two-run homer in the fourth to cut it to a 7-3 game. Centenary would answer back with four runs in the fifth to end the game via the run rule.

England took the loss for Austin College after giving up seven runs – six earned – in 1.1 innings of work. Rivera went 1-for-2 to pace Austin College offensively, as the 'Roos were limited to four hits in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
