Dallas Finishes Weekend Sweep of 'Roo Softball

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell twice to the University of Dallas on Sunday, dropping a 15-1 game one decision before being defeated 8-3 in game two. The 'Roos are now 13-19 overall and 3-13 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In game one, the Dallas bats came alive early and didn't stop, with three runs coming home in the first and five more coming across in the second. Austin College got a solo home run from Kat Wright in the bottom of the first, but Dallas grew the lead to 10-1 in the third inning and added five more runs in the top of the fifth to make it 15-1 and ending the game via the mercy rule.

Wright went 2-for-2, leading the way at the plate as the 'Roos were limited to just three hits in the game. She also took the loss on the mound, surrendering 13 runs – eight earned – on 14 hits in 4.0 innings pitched.

The Crusaders again plated three runs in the top of the first in game two, and Austin College got one run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Felicia Rivera to make it a 3-1 game. Dallas widened the lead to 4-1 in the fourth, and three runs came across in the sixth to push it to a 7-1 game.

Chelsea Easley blasted a homer to center in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-2, but Dallas answered with a homer of their own from Sukie Turner in the top of the seventh to push it to an 8-2 margin. The 'Roos would get one more run across in the seventh on an RBI single from Kierra Gaither to make it 8-3 but that's how things would end.

Tori Herrera took the loss for Austin College, giving up eight runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts in the game. Easley went 3-for-3 and Emily Low went 2-for-3 to pace Austin College on offense.
