'Roos Split with Webster and Ursinus

The Austin College softball team topped Webster University 8-2 before falling 10-2 to Ursinus on the team's second day at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The 'Roos are now 8-8 overall this season.

Against Webster, the 'Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on two run triple from Sophia Hernandez, and after Webster got one run back in the third, Austin College exploded for eight runs in the fourth. Raquel Vara knocked home two runs, and Briana Hernandez cleared the bases with a triple in the inning. Hernandez later scored on an error to make it 8-1. Webster would tack on one run in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 8-2 final.

Briana Hernandez finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace the 'Roos offensively, and Sophia Hernandez went 1-for-3 with two RBI and also picked up the win, throwing a complete game and striking out seven batters while allowing two runs, only one earned.

In the team's second game of the day, Ursinus got out to a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth, when Austin College plated a pair of runs on a Kierra Gaither double to make it a 4-2 game. However, Ursinus put five runs across the plate in the sixth to make it a 9-2 game, and added one more run in the top of the seventh to make it a 10-2 final.

Lauren Mara went 2-for-2 and Gaither went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the 'Roos offensively, while Katherine Wright took the loss, surrendering nine runs - seven earned - on 14 hits in 6.0 innings of work.
