The Austin College softball team fell in game one but picked up its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 4-3 game two victory at the University of Dallas on Tuesday. The 'Roos are now 6-8 overall and 1-7 in SCAC play with the split.

In game one, the 'Roos and Crusaders went into the bottom of the third with the game scoreless, but that's when Dallas got two doubles and took advantage of an Austin College miscue to plate four runs in the inning and take a 4-0 lead. The margin grew to 5-0 in the fourth, and Dallas plated three more in the bottom of the sixth to make it an 8-0 final score.

Victoria Herrera took the loss, surrendering four runs - three earned - on five hits in 3.0 innings of work. Four different 'Roos had one hit apiece as the offense struggled to get going against the Crusaders.

The 'Roos rebounded in game two, plating two runs in the second as a fielding error by the Crusaders opened the door to make it 2-0, but UD fought back to square things at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Sophia Hernandez belted an RBI double in the fifth inning to put Austin College back on top, and Raquel Vara singled home another run in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game. Dallas would add a run in the bottom of the seventh but Hernandez closed things out to earn the complete game victory.

Hernandez gave up three runs, only one earned, on nine hits and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Vara went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Chelsea Easley went 2-for-4 in the victory.
